Travel Industry Commercial Lawyer – Quasi In House

Sacco Mann is delighted to be working with specialist travel & tourism industry law firm Travlaw, to recruit a Commercial Solicitor for its growing team.

Who are Travlaw?

Based in Horsforth in Leeds, Travlaw has the largest legal team in the UK dedicated solely to serving the travel, leisure, hospitality, and tourism industry. A sector that contributes significantly to the economy, by 2025 the UK tourism industry is predicted to be worth over £257 billion, accounting for just under 10% of UK GDP and supporting almost 3.8 million jobs, and one which is both resilient and innovative.

The team acts for businesses across the UK and internationally and are immensely proud of their success. Travlaw boasts an enviable and varied client base, ranging from small family businesses to global corporates, travel agents, event management companies, TMCs, tour operators, visitor attraction operators, travel technology companies, and industry bodies and associations such as ABTA, ABTOT, UKinbound and the BTA. In addition to leisure travel, the team also covers sporting events, educational trips, charitable events and business travel arrangements both for outbound and inbound / domestic markets.

Travlaw is now looking for an additional lawyer (full or part time) to join the Commercial and Corporate Governance Team.

What should candidates expect in this role?

* Exceptional Quality of Work

* Variety

* Unique Career Path

* Relaxed, Friendly and Supportive Team – The SRA describes Travlaw as one of the “best organised and happy law firms they had audited”!

You will work across a range of commercial contracts (B2B and B2C) and regulatory compliance work, much of which is international, giving you the opportunity to work closely with the International Travel Lawyers Network. You will also have the opportunity to get involved in a range of Data Protection and Intellectual Property work as well as technology contracts and providing compliance advice in respect of the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018 and the ATOL Regulations.

The firm has a large number of retained clients, many of which you will have heard of, and undertake all of their commercial legal work, acting as an extension of their in-house team. You can therefore expect to build strong, fulfilling client relationships and really get to know the companies you are advising and understand their structures. The Head of the Department spent many years in senior in house roles and speaks of how this role feels much more akin to an in-house legal role than a typical law firm role, whilst retaining the benefit of the resources and variety available in private practice.

Within the Commercial and Corporate Governance Team the firm also covers all aspects of corporate and corporate finance work as well as compliance with the mandatory package travel financial protection statutory requirements.

Despite the enviable work, this won’t be a role where you will sit behind a desk focusing on fee earning work alone. There is a huge emphasis on client hospitality and given Travlaw’s partnership with a variety of industry bodies and associations, many opportunities to attend enjoyable events, conferences and to present and deliver training are available. For example, the Commercial and Corporate Governance Team recently hosted the ABTA Annual Data Protection Training Day.

What qualities are we looking for in candidates for this role?

* Solid Technical Ability – no travel law experience is required for the role; training will be provided. However, a minimum of 2 years PQE / commercial contracts experience is required. That said, candidates with significantly more experience are also welcomed to apply – the firm is extremely busy, and this opportunity can be scaled to suit the successful applicant and their knowledge/skills.

* Experience with / willingness to get involved in public speaking and delivering training

* Good Judgement

* Ability to present complex legal problems as simple solutions

* Personable & Enthusiastic

* Innovative

* A Passion for Travel (it goes without saying!)

If you love all things travel and are interested in hearing more about this Commercial Solicitor role and/or discussing how to apply, please contact Sophie Linley (0113 236 6711) or Rachael Mann (0113 467 7111) at Sacco Mann.
