We have chosen as our Charity of 2024 Fareshare – the charity fighting hunger and tackling food waste in the UK.
FareShare Yorkshire works in partnership with the UK’s largest food charity, FareShare. They are part of a network of 25 regional centres located across the UK, of which ours operate in Leeds and Barnsley.
They are a community of independent franchised charities, all fighting the same issues: hunger, food insecurity issues and food waste. Over 270,000 tonnes of perfectly edible surplus food is thrown away each year. They want to see that food put to good use.
The money we raise will go towards Fareshare’s FullCrumb Kitchen, which teaches charities how to use surplus food to maximise impact of disparate ingredients week on week, and also contributes towards supporting the logistics and storage so Fareshare can absorb more food to distribute to those in need.
FareShare Yorkshire was formed in 1998 to help tackle the food poverty issues across the county by redistributing surplus food across the region. They source and redistribute quality, in date surplus food which would otherwise have gone to waste, turning an environmental problem into a social solution.
Recently the Travlaw team went and helped out at the warehouse in Leeds in few weeks back, and it was genuinely an eye opening experience. The sheer volume of food that needs distributing and the amount of local community hubs, schools, churches and other groups that are distributing this food to the sheer volume of people who need it is frankly mindboggling.
Going forward we’ll be looking to book in more volunteer days at their warehouse and I would encourage you to go along and help out if you can – it’s a lot of lifting for sure, but it’s actually a really rewarding experience.

VALENTINE’S BAKE SALE – We recently held our Valentine’s Bake Sale in our building, selling home made cakes on a Valentine’s theme and raising £94 in one afternoon!
THE BIG TRAVLAW MARATHON CHALLENGE – We’re taking on the 26.2 miles of a marathon as a team – well, twoi teams to be exact. Team Purple will start at nearby Kirkstall Bridge, Team Orange in the centre of Skipton, and both will race the Leeds/Liverpool Canal all the way to Bingley. Winner gets the respect and adulation of their peers, while you can sponsor them for the cause.
